Port Allegany - Violet L. Cooper, 93, of Erie, formerly of Port Allegany, died Saturday (April 14, 2018) in the Forestview Healthcare Center, Erie.
She was born Jan. 17, 1925 in Olean, NY, a daughter of Frank and Dorothy Spencer Kelley. On June 5, 1954 in Port Allegany, she married Arthur M. Cooper, who died April 28, 1992.
Mrs. Cooper was a 1945 graduate of Port Allegany High School and the Orra Jean Beauty Academy in Erie, PA. She owned and operated Violet's Beauty Salon in Port Allegany for 17 years.
She was a member of Smethport Christian & Missionary Alliance Church where she did the "Get Well Cards" ministry. She was also a member of the Shakespeare Club, Royal Neighbors of America and the Glamorous Gatorettes Red Hats Club.
She liked camping, fishing, traveling with the family, shopping, knitting, baking and embroidering pillow cases. Most of all, she loved her family, church and friends.
She is survived by:
two sons: Paul (Michelle) A. Cooper of Edinboro, PA and Randall (Mary) L. Cooper of O'Fallon, MO,
Grandchildren: Katie Cooper, 1st Lt. Patrick Cooper, Miranda (Colton) Lindberg, Samuel Cooper, and Amelia Cooper
Great Grand Child: Chloe June Lindberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Lillian Kelley Rush.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April17, 2018, in the Smethport Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 414 E. Water St., Smethport from 2-4PM, at which time funeral services will begin at 4 PM with the Rev. Steven Heath, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.
