Obituary of Archie D. Rice

Smethport - Archie D. Rice, 91, of Medina, NY, formerly of Smethport, died Wednesday (September 23, 2009) in Medina. He was born March 22, 1918 in Farmers Valley, a son of Duane and Bessie Ferman Rice. On Oct. 11, 1944, in Smethport, PA, he married Theresa Bizzaro, who died November 11, 2002. Mr. Rice went to Farmers Valley Schools, and was a machine operator at Pittsburgh Corning, Port Allegany, before retiring. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Smethport. He is survived by two daughters: Frances (Charles) Sutliff of Medina, NY, Betty Rice of Rochester, NY two brothers: Walter Rice of Webster, NY, Clifford Rice of St. George, UT 3 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Rice, 1 brother, and 2 sisters. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral services will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, with the Rev. Charles Schmitt, officiating. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. Memorials if desired, can be made to Hospice of Orleans County, 14080 Rt. 31, Albion, NY 14411.
