Obituary of Wilda Genevieve Dixon

Smethport - Wilda Genevieve Dixon, 93, of Kane, formerly of Smethport, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday (September 1, 2014). She was a resident of The Lutheran Home at Kane. She was born March 12, 1921 in Owls Nest, PA, a daughter of Walter M. and Elma Rea Ishman. Wilda married Donald Leroy Dixon, who survives, in Kane, PA on August 23, 1947. They moved to Smethport in 1947 and began their ministry at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Mrs. Dixon was a 1939 graduate of DeYoung High School. Her class was the last class to graduate and she was the last surviving member of her class. In 1944, she went to Nyack Missionary Training Institute in Nyack, NY and graduated from there in 1947. Mrs. Dixon was employed for many years by the Sylvania Electric Company. After her employment there, she became an Avon representative and then worked for Herzog Milling Company before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a member of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Smethport. All of her life she supported missions, missionaries, and Christian endeavors. She knew her Bible and was always ready and willing to share the Good News. She carried everyone to God in prayer to the very end. In addition to her husband, Donald, she is survived by a sister, Georgie Kaber of Shelby, OH, 28 nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Olive Ishman, Edith Geer, and Lois Geer; brothers Norman, Bruce and Walter Benjamin Ishman. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 4-7 p.m. at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. Funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m., in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Steve Heath, pastor, officiating.
