Obituary of John J. Lewis

Smethport - John Joseph Lewis, 65, of Smethport, died Saturday (October 4, 2014) in UPMC-Hamot, Erie. He was born Oct 28, 1948 in Olean, NY, a son of George C. and Mary Louise DeSio Lewis. John was a 1967 graduate of Smethport High School and served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. John had been employed by Pittsburgh Corning of Port Allegany, PA. He retired due to ill health. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Church of Smethport, the Smethport Fire Dept., was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the former Smethport Ambulance Association. He is survived by: six sisters: Linda M. (Thomas) Hinaman of Lewis Run, Phyllis J. (Jim) McWilliams of Powder Springs, GA, Rosemary Frizzi of Mableton, GA, Elaine D. Lewis of Anderson, SC, Barbara L. (Gilbert) Geer of Indianapolis, IN, Patti A. (Hassan) Cox-Obied of Ballston Spa, NY three brothers: Mark G. Lewis of Douglasville, GA, Gary A. Lewis of Norcross, GA, Leo E. Lewis of Douglasville, GA, 9 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Smethport Fire Dept., or a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.
