Obituary of Lucy Ella Nelson

Crosby - Lucy Ella Campbell Nelson, 92, of Crosby, passed away Wednesday (April 8, 2015). She was born May 26, 1922 in Colegrove, a daughter of Peter Paul and Cleda Lucinda Burdick Campbell. On Oct. 29, 1940, in Hancock, MD, she married Carl Avery Nelson, who passed away on March 22, 1979. Mrs. Nelson attended Betula grade school and Colegrove High School. She worked for Sylvania of Emporium, Corning Glass of Bradford, and ultimately for the Smethport Country Club. She was a member of the Norwich Twp. Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary of Crosby, the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 Women's Auxiliary of Smethport, was a former Red Hats member, volunteered at the Pink Elephant in Smethport, enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She also was a former member of the Crosby United Methodist Church. She is survived by: one daughter: Calonae (John) Copeland of Smethport two sons: Avery (Vicky) Nelson of Lewis Run and Doug (Debbie) Nelson of Crosby 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 21 great-great grandchildren one brother: Elmer (Rose) Campbell of Smethport and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Johnathan Lee Nelson, one granddaughter, Lisa Nelson, four brothers and three sisters. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport. Funeral and committal services will be held on Saturday, April 11, at 11 AM, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette. Flowers are gratefully declined and will be provided by the family. Memorials, if desired, may be made to McKean County Hospice and VNA and the Norwich Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. of Crosby. Online condolences may be made at www.hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.
