Obituary of Manley J. Brown

Smethport - Manley J. Brown, 69, of Eldred, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday (September 6, 2015) in the Bradford Manor, Bradford surrounded by his family. He was born March 20, 1946 in Shinglehouse, a son of Julius and Dorothy Trask Brown. On July 3, 1971, in the Duke Center Free Methodist Church, he married Doris A. Burdick, who survives. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School and was a SP4 in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. Mr. Brown worked as a truck driver for many years before retiring. He worked for several area companies, including Taylor & Armstrong of Eldred, and lastly, Duffy, Inc. of Smethport. He was a member of the NRA and DAV. He loved spending time with his family, his dog "Trixie", and his three goats. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Manley never met a "stranger". He talked to everyone and loved to make people laugh. He was known to be a great story teller. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two daughters: Sharon L. (Garry) Quibell of Thunder Bay, ON, Canada and Patricia A. Brown of Eldred two sons: Lee E. (Tammy) Brown of Allegany, NY and David G. Brown of Eldred two brothers: Tom & Joe Brown of Eldred, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by several brothers and sister-in-law whom he cared for very much. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles "Cork" Brown, and two sisters, Jane North and Donna Brown. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. Visitation will be held again on Friday, from 11 A.M. to noon at the Country Chapel Baptist Church (old Eldred Township Elementary School) 109 Indian Creek Road, Eldred, where funeral and committal services will begin at noon, with Pastor Bruce Ireland, officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Farmers Valley. Military Honors will be conducted by Mr. Matt Windsor, Director of McKean County Veterans Affairs.
