Obituary of Paul Maynard

Smethport - Stanley "Paul" Maynard, 67, of Smethport, died Thursday (December 24, 2015) in Buffalo Veterans Hospital, Buffalo, NY. He was born April 7, 1948 in Kane, a son of Willis L. and Doris McKean Maynard. Paul was first married to Sharon Anderson, and then on Feb. 14, 1993 in Smethport, he married Peggy Jean Stuckey, who survives. Mr. Maynard was a 1966 graduate of Smethport High School. He was a LCPL in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with 2 Stars, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and Purple Heart Medal with 3 Stars. Mr. Maynard had worked as a greens keeper for Bartlett Country Club of Olean, NY. He was a member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 and VFW Post #2497, both of Smethport, the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby, the VFW Post #6391 and American Legion; Frank Burt Post, both of Port Allegany, and many other military locations throughout the area. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: four daughters: Andrea (Jodi Rovitto) Maynard and Jennifer (Douglas) Bates, both of Pittsburgh, Susan Stuckey of Eldred, and Danielle (Peter Gerlach) Sawyer of Hamburg, NY two sons: Lance (Stephanie) Maynard of Wasilla, AK and Brandon (Lucretia) Maynard of Port Allegany three brothers: Dennis (Barbara) Maynard of Smethport, Rob (Sandi) Maynard of Crosby, and Michael "Mick" (Patricia) Maynard of Port Allegany, 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, where funeral and committal services will be held Wednesday, December 30 at 11:00 am, with the Rev Rob Hernan, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Smethport, officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral Home. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
