Obituary of Richard F. Mallison

Smethport - Richard F. Mallison, 86, of Smethport, died Wednesday (January 20, 2016) in the Lakeview Senior Care & Living Ctr., Smethport. He was born Sept. 6, 1929 in St. Marys, PA, a son of Linus and Frances McHenry Mallison. On June 19, 1948, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Marys, PA, he married Ramona Johnston, who died June 9, 2015. Mr. Mallison was a 1947 graduate of St. Marys Public High School and attended California State College of California, PA, graduating in 1958, with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. He was a Cpl. in the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Mallison worked as an Industrial Arts Teacher, employed first at South Williamsport School District from 1958 to 1968. He then came to Smethport Area High School and taught until his retirement. He was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Smethport, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Usher. He also was a member of the Holy Name Society, where he had held the office of President. Richard was also a member of PSEA. Richard used his talents to help his daughter Amy and her husband James, build their home. He was a family man, and enjoyed spending "Football Sunday" with his two grandsons, Jacob and Elias. He is survived by: one daughter: Amy (James) Austin of Shinglehouse, PA one son: David (Beth Stratton) Mallison of Smethport, PA five grandchildren: Jacob, Elias, Noah, Anna and Henry Austin one sister: Mary Jane D'Amore of St. Marys, PA one brother: Joseph Mallison of Pittsburgh, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Mallison. Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 25, from 9:00-9:45 A.M. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Main St,, Smethport, PA, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 307 Franklin St., Smethport, PA 16749.
