Obituary of Esther C. Herriman

Smethport - Esther C. Herriman, 96, of Smethport, died Sunday (January 24, 2016) in the Lakeview Senior Care & Living Ctr., Smethport. She was born March 6, 1919 in Smethport, a daughter of Harry D. and Hilda Berg Comes. On September 20, 1947, in Smethport, PA, she married Fredrick Virgil Herriman, who died Dec. 26, 1975. Mrs. Herriman was a 1937 graduate of Smethport High School and attended the former Westbrook Academy in Olean, NY. From 1958 until her retirement in 1985, she was secretary at the Smethport Area High School. She had been previously employed by Henry Gallup, the McKean County Commissioners and Smethport Garage. She was a member of PSEA and St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Smethport. She enjoyed doing word searches and playing Bingo. She is survived by one daughter: Phyllis Jane (Robert, Jr.) Faes of Smethport, PA two grandchildren: Dawn (Wolfe) Mandalas of Dover, DE and Christopher Wolfe of Aurora, WV eight great grandchildren: Chelsea, Kristen, Ashley, Cody and Shylah Wolfe, Nikolas, Lillian and Christopher Mandalas two brothers: Donald Comes and Harry D. Comes, Jr., both of Smethport, PA and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers: William, Gordon and Paul Comes; and two sisters: Harriet Burghart and Virginia Sayers. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10 A.M. to 12 Noon at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral and committal services will be held at noon with the Rev. Joann Piatko, pastor of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Smethport, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
