Obituary of Thomas Richard McKean

Smethport - Thomas R. McKean, 79, of Wellington, OH, died Tuesday (July 19, 2016) in the Cleveland Clinic, Medina, OH. He was born April 16, 1937 in Kane, a son of Robert E. and Marion Bloomster McKean. On June 19, 1965, in Smethport, PA, he married Karen Cooper, who survives. Tom and Karen were married for 51 years. Mr. McKean was a 1956 graduate of Smethport High School and served in the U.S. Army. Tom worked at Bradford Airport and finished his career as an Air Traffic Controller in Oberlin, Ohio, retiring in 2001. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: one son: Timothy R. (Michelle) McKean of Nova, OH one daughter: Michelle L. (Gregg) Rees of Brunswick, OH Granddaughters: Emily Rees, serving in the U.S. Army, Ft. Drum, NY, and Megan and Breanne McKean, both of Nova, OH two brothers: Bernard (Bev) McKean of Ashtabula, OH and William (Judy) McKean of Smethport, PA and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert and James McKean, and one sister: Doris Maynard. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 24, from 2-5 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 25, 2016, at 10 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at 4:30 PM on Sunday. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
