Obituary of Henry Harvell

Smethport – Henry Harvell, Jr., also known as "Mr. Henry", 85, of Smethport, passed away Monday (January 30, 2017) in the Sena Kean Manor, Smethport. He was born April 30, 1931 in Attapulgus, GA, a son of Henry and Annie Yawn Harvell, Sr. On June 20, 1958, in Chanute AFB, Illinois, he married Joan L. Johnson, who survives. Mr. Harvell attended Havana, FL schools and then entered the military. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1973. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 as Sr. Master Sgt. After his retirement, he worked for the U.S. Postal service. He started out as a carrier and worked his way up to Post Master of the U.S. Post Office in Hazel Hurst and then the Post Office in Duke Center. He retired from the Postal service in 1994. He was a member of the Regular Baptist Church of Smethport and worked for A.W.A.N.A. (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) for over 20 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two daughters: Karen (Stephen) Larson of Port Allegany and Leslie (David) Hoffman of Bradford four grandchildren: Ian and Zachary Hoffman, Mark and Scott Larson one sister: Ann Stout of Tallahassee, FL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters. In accordance with Henry's wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later time and date. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport.
