Obituary of Daryl Gottlieb Frey

East Smethport - Daryl Gottlieb Frey, Sr., 76, of East Smethport, passed away Sunday (December 31, 2017), at his residence. He was born Aug. 8, 1941 in Toledo, OH, a son of William G. and Lucy M. Noland Frey. On November 14, 1980, in Smethport, he married Debra Bishop, who survives. Mr. Frey was a graduate of Libby High School in Toledo, OH. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. Daryl was a caregiver for many years and a family oriented man. He will be remembered as a kind person in the community that everyone knew. He was a member of PA Families, Inc., where he was chairman, was a Foster Parent for over 20 years for Beacon Light, was a member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport, loved the Detroit Lions and Ohio State football, was a huge Smethport Hubber fan, and was a Sports Booster member. Daryl also redistributed medical equipment for people that needed it. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: four daughters: Cheryl (Ted) Phillips, Mary (Rick) Isadore, Miranda (Andy) Johnson and Alison (Dave) Frey-Hughes, three sons: Daryl (Linda) Frey, Jr., Steve (Christy) Frey and Derek (Cassie) Frey, Twenty-one grandchildren one sister: Janet Marshall one brother: Dwayne Frey and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Daryl was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Frey, and two brothers, Kenny and William G. Frey, Jr. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 3, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport. Funeral and committal services will be held on Thurs., Jan. 4, at 11:00 am from the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, with the Rev. Andrew Johnson, son in law, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138.
