Judith A. Johnson

Smethport - Judith A. Johnson, 79, of Smethport, passed away Wednesday (August 11, 2021) at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY, from congestive heart failure.
 
She was born March 24, 1942 in Bradford, the daughter of William Mackey and Ethel Gould. On March 2, 1963, in Smethport, she married Richmond C. Johnson, who preceded her in death on May 29, 2001.
 
Judy was a graduate of Bradford High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study Drama. She was a homemaker for the majority of her life, tending to the needs of her family. Judy also worked as a cook at the Smethport Diner, where she was a master of the "Hubber Burger". She was featured in the 1993 PBS documentary Pennsylvania Diners and Other Roadside Restaurants.

A lover of good food, music, pets, and babies, in her later years she provided longtime daycare for several local children, becoming a “Grandma Jude” to the families who relied on her help. Judy will be remembered by all who knew her for her boisterous laugh, quick wit, warm heart, and adventurous spirit. A rugged individual right up to the end, she lived in her home until her passing.

She is survived by:

Three daughters: Wendy C. Johnson of Ellicottville, NY, Cintra J. Johnson of Smethport, and Holly A. Johnson of Buffalo, NY
Two grandchildren: Angela (Glenn) Au and Andrew Piscitello
One great-grandchild: Luca Au
One sister: Shirley Clark of Rixford, PA
One brother: Walter Mackey of Bradford
And several nieces and nephews
 
In addition to her parents and husband, Judy was preceded in death by three brothers: Gary Mackey, Robert Gould and Junior Mackey.
 
A celebration of Judy’s life will be held on Friday, Sept. 3rd. at the Smethport Country Club from 1-6 PM.  Music will be by Jim Ronan.
