Barbara P. Ognen

Smethport - Barbara P. Ognen, 81, of Smethport, formerly of Mt. Jewett, passed away Wednesday (December 15, 2021) at Lakeview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Smethport.

 

She was born August 23, 1940 in Kane, the daughter of Olin and Stella Fiore Lobaugh . On August 13, 1957, she married Joseph L. Ognen, who died March 16, 2019.

 

Barb attended Kane Area schools and had worked several jobs over the years.  She ultimately was a homemaker tending to the needs of her family.

 

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Mt. Jewett, the St. Joseph Alter Rosary Society, and was an active member of the community.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  Above all, Barb’s most important moments were those spent with family creating memories and traditions for the years to follow.  

 

She is survived by five children, Krissi Ognen of Clifton Heights, PA, Joseph (Pam Caldwell) Ognen of Bradford, Catherine Hartman of Glenmoore, PA, Margaret (Jay) LaCroix of Ellicottville, NY and Dick (Joanne) Ognen of Smethport; nine grandchildren, Christopher Ognen, Deanna Ognen, Katelyn Hartman, Cory Hartman, Grant Ognen, Alex Ognen, Logan Ognen, Evelyn Nuzzo and Giancarlo Nuzzo; one great-grandchild, Odin Pierce; two sisters, Deborah Woodhouse of Azle, TX and Nadine (Gary) Oknefski of Denton, TX; one brother, Dick (Madaline) Lobaugh of Boyd, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

 

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 20, from 10-11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 20 Division St., Mt. Jewett, PA, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM, with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Bridgeview Cemetery, Mt. Jewett.
