Obituary of Gary K. Drum

Smethport- Gary K. Drum, 69, of Smethport, died Friday (June 26, 2009) in the Hamot Medical Center, Erie. He was born April 25, 1940 in Natrona Heights, a son of Harry B. and Helene A. Schaeffer Drum. On June 26, 1965, in Youngstown, OH, he married Carolann Machingo, who survives. Mr. Drum was a graduate of Har-Brak High School, Natrona Heights, PA, and attended Youngstown University, Youngstown, OH, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science with a degree in funeral directing and embalming. Mr. Drum moved to Smethport in 1978, where he owned and operated the Gary K. Drum Funeral Home, Inc., until his retirement in 2003. He was a past member and past president of the Smethport Rotary Club, where he was a recipient of the Paul Harris award, was a former Smethport Borough Council member, and was a former Mayor of Smethport. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Gary K."JR" Drum, Jr. of Smethport, PA, Christopher B. Drum of Smethport, PA granddaughter, Amber Adair Drum. 2 Brothers, 1 sister, and several nieces and nephews Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Tuesday, from St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Brian Vossler, pastor of St. Mary's Church, Sartwell, officiating.
