After my brother got out of the Air force, he was working in Utah doing something with the elk herd. He was following an old wagon train trail where the ruts from the Conestoga wagon wheels were still in the ground. He found an old bottle. I can't remember the age, but it was something like 100 years old shown by the date on it. When it was time to come home he loaded all his belongings, including the bottle, into his brand new Firebird and drove the whole way home. When he pulled into the driveway I was excited to see him. I ran out to help unload his car and opened the trunk and the first box I picked up contained the bottle. As soon as I moved it the bottle fell to the driveway and SMASHED! The look on his face was one of disbelief. I felt so bad I almost cried. Through the years the bottle episode was brought up many times. I never was able to find a replacement. He must have forgiven me because he taught me to drive in his new car.

Jim and I were hired at the same time April 1976 as Forest Inspectors (now days Forest Fire Spcst Spvr). Jim in Dist 15 and I in Dist 18. We worked a lot on wildfire training through the years. As far as I know we the first two to be Red Carded qualified as Division Supervisor DIVS. We ended up a couple of times on the same out of state wildfire. Jim was one he.. of a wildland firefighter.
