Port Allegany - Virginia M. Johnson, 87, of Port Allegany, formerly of Austin, PA, passed away Thursday (June 26, 2025) at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY.

She was born December 15, 1937 at home in West Renovo, PA, the daughter of Clyde and Lucy (Fantaski) Wertz. In November, 1972, in Renovo, PA, she married Dean G. Johnson, who died July 17, 1986.

Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Renovo High School Class of 1955 and was employed by Sylvania of Galeton, PA before retiring.

She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed her grandchildren.

She is survived by:

One daughter: Abbey (Christopher) Johnson-Ernst of Turtlepoint

One son: Bradley (Tammy) Johnson of Emporium, PA

Four grandchildren: Taylor Johnson, Dean Johnson, Andrew Ernst and Cameron Ernst

One brother: Larry (Carlen) Wertz

One sister: Susan Wertz Gardiner

And many nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by nine brothers; Walter Sr., Clyde, Roy, Rodger, Mark, Edwin, Byron, Darwin and Tracy, along with two sisters; Rene Matthis and Evelyn Watson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 10AM to noon at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., Port Allegany, where funeral services will begin at noon with the Rev. Dale Detweiler, pastor of the Birch Grove Mennonite Church, Port Allegany. Burial will be in the North Bend Cemetery, Hyner, PA.
