Obituary of Richard Wayne Rice
Smethport - Richard Wayne Rice, 69, of Smethport, died Saturday (December 26, 2015) in the UPMC- Hamot, Erie.
He was born Nov. 27, 1946 in Port Allegany, a son of Donald and Ruby Shields Rice.
Mr. Rice was a 1964 graduate of Otto Eldred High School and was a veteran in the U.S. Army, serving during Vietnam.
Mr. Rice was employed by St Gobain of Port Allegany, retiring in 2005 after 40 plus years of work.
Mr. Rice was a family focused man and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid dirt track race fan. He loved music and singing and was a dedicated football fan.
He had also been a member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
He is survived by:
one daughter: Heather (Matthew) McKean of Smethport
one son: Troy Rice of Asheboro, NC
three grandchildren Tristen Rice, Aiden and Madelyn McKean
one brother: Don (Donna) Rice of Duke Center, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Roger Rice and one sister Patricia Baber
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 31 at 11:00 am in the Fairmount Cemetery, Farmers Valley with the Rev. Allen D. Young, pastor of the East Smethport United Christian Church, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
