Obituary of Ronald G Silvis

Smethport - Ronald G. Silvis, 71, of Eldred, entered heaven Monday (August 21, 2023) at UPMC Williamsport.

 

He was born May 31, 1952 in Olean, NY, the son of Edward and Mary (Acre) Silvis . On December 26, 1970, in Coryville, PA, he married the love of his life, Katherine G. Austin, who survives.  They were married 52 years.

 

Mr. Silvis was a graduate of Otto- Eldred High School and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Mt. Whitney from 1970 to 1974.

 

Ron held several jobs over the years, but ultimately worked as a corrections officer at the McKean County Jail before retiring due to health issues.

 

Ron played softball in his younger years.  He gained the nickname “Spider” from his teammates and friends.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family, including his loyal pets “Lacy”, “Watson” and “Ellen”.

 

In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by:

One daughter: Samantha (Gary) Budinger of Eldred

Grandchildren:  Logan and Kaden Silvis, Jacob Neubert and Sandra Stuck

One brother:  Robert (Cora) Silvis of Punta Gorda, FL

Two sisters:  Bonnie Owens of Bradford and Betty (Robert) Johnson of Rochester, NY

And several nieces and nephews

 

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by a grandson, Vincent E. Silvis on July 25, 2012, his only son, Brent V. Silvis on Oct. 28, 2014, his daughter in law, Deb Silvis on June 5, 2019, and niece, Julie Penard and cousin Christy Milliron.

 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023 at the Coryville Church of Faith, Moody Hollow, from 11 AM to 1 PM, where funeral and committal services will begin at 1PM with the Rev. Karmon Wood, officiating.  Burial will be in Moody Hollow Cemetery.  Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
