Obituary of Jane L. Cogan

Smethport - Jane L. Cogan, 80, of Crosby, passed away peacefully Friday (September 1, 2023) at Penn Highlands Hospital, Dubois.

She was born July 12, 1943 in Kane, the daughter of Clinton and Alva (Anderson) Silfies.  On Sept. 4, 1971, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Smethport, she married Kenneth E. Cogan, who passed away Feb. 18, 2018.

Jane was a Smethport High School Class of 1961 graduate.  She worked at Sena Kean Manor for many years where she retired as the supervisor of house keeping and laundry.  She then worked part-time as the Post Mistress at the East Smethport U.S. Post Office.

Jane was a member of the Crosby Community Church. She was a very active member in the church and in her community as a volunteer for several organizations over the years.

She is survived by:

One son:  Gregg E. (Rita) Cogan of Latrobe, PA

Seven daughters:  Denise L. (Haile) Cogan-Blackman of Pasedena, CA; Karen A. (Jeff) Borneman of Souderton, PA; Debra M. (John) Walker of Hazel Hurst, PA; Laurie K. Dufford of Bradford; Christina R. Platko of Charlotte, NC; Deanna L. Cogan of Sierra Madre, CA; and Amy L. (Kevin) Shaw of Slippery Rock, PA

Several grandchildren and great grandchildren

Her best friend and companion, Keith Wright of Smethport

One sister:  Ellen Herzog of Bradford

And several nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents and husband, Jane was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth A. Cogan; a son-in-law, David M. Platko; and two brothers: John and William “Bill” Silfies.

Services for Jane will be private. Burial will be in the Clermont Cemetery, Clermont.
