Obituary of Leonard C. Anderson

Smethport - Leonard C. Anderson, 74, beloved husband, Dad and “Grampy”, of Smethport, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (November 2, 2023) at his home in Smethport.

 

He was born May 28, 1949 in Kane, the son of Carl L. Anderson and Catherine (Rounsville) Anderson.  On June 19, 1982, in Smethport, he married his childhood sweetheart, Sharon "Sherry" Marsh, who survives. They were married for 41 years and were always seen out and about together.

 

Lenny was a 1967 graduate of Smethport High School.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from 1969 to 1971, serving one year in Vietnam as a Combat Medic from July 1969 to July 1970.  He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with a “V” Device for Heroism, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

 

He worked several jobs over the years in McKean, Clearfield and Jefferson Counties, but found a “home” at Zippo Manufacturing in Bradford, from where he retired in 2011.

 

Lenny was a Lifetime Member and Past Commander of the V.F.W. Post #2497 of Smethport and was also a member of the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby, PA. 

 

He was best known for his quick wit, his infectious dance moves, and his undying love for God, family and country.  His Grandchildren were his pride and joy!

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

one son: Leonard C. Anderson, Jr. of DuBois, PA

one daughter: Crystal (Steve) Woodard of Smethport

grandchildren: Tyler, Kaitlin and Abbey

one sister: Charlotte Clutter of Smethport

and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Anderson and an infant son.

 

At Lenny’s request, there will be no visitation.  A Celebration of Life will be held on November 18, 2023, from 1-3 PM at the V.F.W. Post #2497 of Smethport. Military Honors will be accorded at 1 PM and the Celebration immediatley following.
