Obituary of Raymond G. Bigley

Smethport - Raymond G. Bigley, 71, of Smethport, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday (February 20, 2024) at his residence.

 

He was born November 22, 1952 in Elk County, the son of Robert and Marjorie (Lushbaugh) Bigley. In 1981, in Eldred, PA, he married Gloria J. Bennett, who survives.

 

Ray was a graduate of Smethport Area High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1976. 

 

He worked as a contractor for Wayne & Johnson Roofing, Dick Feile Construction and lastly for Hammer & Nail Construction of Smethport.

 

Ray was a member of the American Legion, loved to hunt, go to estate sales, collect tools and knives, and “puttering” around his garage.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

One son:  Robert C. Bigley of Nanticoke, PA

One daughter: Sarah K. Akinde of Chicago, IL

One granddaughter: Inaya Akinde

Along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

 

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by one sister, Glenna Austin.

 

A memorial service for Ray will be held privately with close family and friends.  Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
