Obituary of David L. Petruzzi

Smethport - David L. Petruzzi, 87, of Smethport, passed away Monday (April 15, 2024) at his home in Smethport.

 

He was born April 10, 1937 in Kane, the son of Fred and Shirley (Rifle) Petruzzi. On March 17, 1956, in St. Marys Church, Oak Ridge, TN, he married his life's love and best friend, Mary Pat VanFleet, who survives.

 

He was a graduate of Smethport Area High School and attended the University of Tennessee.

Dave lived and worked in the Olean-Allegany area for 25 years as a construction electrician. In 1983, he went to work at Hull Electric of Bradford as an outside sales representative. He retired from there in 2003.

 

He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #106 of Jamestown, NY for 43 years. He was also a member of the Olean Elks Club, Allegany Legion and Knights of Columbus Council #1220 in Allegany, NY. He is a member of St. Elizbeth Church, Smethport, where he was a former council member.  He was also involved with Meals On Wheels, was a member of the Crosby Legion, the Keating Sportsman Club and the NRA. He was an avid New York Yankees fan.  Dave was also a former member of the Big 30 Committee.  He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.  He especially enjoyed being with family at family gatherings. He loved his family very much and was extremely proud of them.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

One daughter: Teresa (Brian) Galloway of Mt. Jewett

Three sons: Dr. Leon (Niki) Petruzzi of Plainview, Long Island, John (JoAnn) Petruzzi of Lewis Run and Fred Petruzzi of Virginia Beach, VA

Eight grandchildren: Robert (Adele) VanSkiver, Jennifer (Michael) Waid, Dominic (Julie) Petruzzi, John Petruzzi, Jessica Lynn (Vito) Kavanah, Jessica Lee Petruzzi, Evan Petruzzi, Ryanne Roulo, along with eleven great grandchildren

 

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by infant twin sons, James and John, and one sister, Nancy Petruzzi.

 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 6-8PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., Smethport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 19, at 10AM in St. Elizabeth Church with the Rev. Joseph Dougherty, pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport.
