Obituary of William Elmer Good

Smethport - William Elmer Good, 93, of Smethport, passed away Friday (October 14, 2016) at his residence. He was born Sept. 30, 1923 in Pittsburgh, a son of William J. and Viola Brudy Good. In 1948, he married Mina Just, who passed away in 1982. On Oct. 13, 1984, in Smethport, he married Shirley Winslow Griffin, who survives. Mr. Good was a graduate of St. Marys Catholic in Pittsburgh, where he received scholarships to attend Duquesne Preparatory and Duquesne University. After one year at Duquesne, he entered the Merchant Marines in 1943 and served during WWII, being discharged in 1946 after the war. Mr. Good was awarded his military medals and citations in 2013, and was the center of an article for his merit in the Bradford Era on April 20, 2013. After his service, Mr. Good worked at Union National Bank of Pittsburgh, retiring at the position of Vice President in December of 1983. He was a Life Member of the Allegheny Rifle Club of Glenshaw, PA and a member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport. Bill was an avid hunter and carver. He received several awards for his beautiful hand carvings of duck decoys over the years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two daughters: Janet (Terry) Dunkle of Austin, TX and Karen (Martin) Ecoff of Greenville, SC two grandchildren: Dr. Jess Dunkle of Houston, TX and Kristen Dunkle of Austin, TX. 9 stepchildren and 29 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife and parents. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 9 to 10 A.M. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Main St., Smethport, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M., with the Rev. Vincent Cieslewicz, Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport or having Masses said in memory of Bill.
