Obituary of Lester E. Ernst

Port Allegany- Lester E. "Pete" Ernst, 71, of Port Allegany, died Saturday (January 11, 2014) in the Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport. He was born Feb. 10, 1942 in Sartwell Creek, a son of Frank and Geraldine Baum Ernst. On June 22, 1963, in the former E.U.B. Church of Port Allegany, PA, he married Elaine S. Painter, who survives. Pete was a 1960 graduate of Port Allegany High School and worked for the former Pierce Glass plant, now Verallia, in Port Allegany in the mold shop. He then went on to work as a self employed machinist at his home. He also owned and operated Pine View Driving Range for over 20 years. He was a life member of the National FFA Alumni Association, a long time member of local pool shooting leagues in Port Allegany, was an avid golfer and outdoorsman, and he especially enjoyed tending to his goats. In addition to his wife, he is survived by: three sons: Mark (Doni) Ernst of Ellicott City, MD, Shawn (Dawn) Ernst and Christopher (Abbey) Ernst, both of Port Allegany five grandchildren: Melissa, Joshua, Michael, Kaylee and Andrew Ernst one brother: Francis "Dee" (Barbara) Ernst of Sartwell Creek a sister in law: Nancy Burrows of Port Allegany two Aunts: Opal Moshier of Port Allegany and Jane Haskins of Coudersport, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Ernst. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc, 105 N. Main St, Port Allegany, PA. Funeral and committal services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 11 A.M., in the Sartwell Creek Union Church, with the Rev. LaVerne Howard, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Sartwell Creek Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Port Allegany Ambulance Service, the Patterson Cancer Center of Coudersport, PA, Potter County Hospice, or a charity of the donor's choice.
