Obituary of Wayne Douglas McDowell

Smethport - Wayne Douglas “Doug” McDowell, 55, of Crosby, died Sunday (January 19, 2014) at his home, after a battle with cancer. He was born June 24, 1958 in Port Allegany, a son of James R. and Anita L. Russell McDowell. He married Rena Freer in 1978. In 1988, in Maryland, he married Margie Freer, who died in 1999. Doug was a 1976 graduate of Smethport High School. He was a welder and fabricator for many years at his shop, McDowell’s Welding, in Crosby. He also constructed two sawmills for RAM Forest Products. One was at the Ceres, PA location and the other was at the Moscow, PA location. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby, PA, a member of the McKean Lodge #388 F&AM of Smethport, a member of the NRA, and the Legion Riders. He enjoyed stockcar racing, football, the annual Crosby Cow and Coyote Hunt, and riding motorcycles. In addition to his parents, James and Anita, he is survived by: one daughter: Kara (Eric) Barton of Duke Center, PA one son: Jeremy (Chantel) McDowell of Little Valley, NY one sister: Donna (Ed) Swanson of Smethport, PA a grandson, Tyler McDowell, and a granddaughter, Jezlyn Barton. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 4-6 PM at the Smethport Fire Hall, Water St., Smethport, PA, where a funeral service will be conducted at 6 PM immediately following the visitation. Burial will be in the Bridge View Cemetery, Mt. Jewett. Memorials may be made to American Legion, John Berg Post #976 of Crosby or the American Cancer Society, McKean County Unit.
