Obituary of Robert R. Sweeley

Smethport- Robert R. "Bob" Sweeley, 84, of Smethport, died Tuesday (March 3, 2009) in the Hamot Medical Center, Erie. He was born March 2, 1925 in Farmers Valley, a son of Clyde T. and Grace Jones Sweeley, Sr. On March 21, 1956, in Crosby, PA, he married Jeannette Prosser, who survives. Mr. Sweeley was a 1943 graduate of Smethport Area High School and was a PFC in the U.S. Army, serving during WWII, from 1943 to 1945. Mr. Sweeley was a Heavy Equipment Operator for several construction companies over the years and ultimately retired from I.A. Construction in March of 1990. He was a member of the Operating Engineers, Local #66. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son: Clair "Buck" (Terry) Sweeley of Smethport, PA one daughter: Sue (Don) Fowler of Lafayette, PA 2 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren one brother: Clyde Sweeley, Jr. of Bradford, PA and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sweeley was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, and a brother. There will be no visitation. Private services will be held at the discretion of the family. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
