Obituary of Ralph J. Mayer

Smethport - Ralph J. Mayer, 75, of Smethport, died Saturday (March 28, 2009) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford. He was born Oct 11, 1933 in Bradford, a son of Harry and Kathryn Field Mayer. On July 3, 1954, in Smethport, PA, he married Jonnie Lynn Peterson, who died in 2003. Mr. Mayer was a graduate of Smethport High School and was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Mayer owned and operated Mayer's Citgo in Smethport for many years before retiring. He was a member of McKean Lodge #388 F&AM of Smethport, the McKean County Historical Society, and the Community Food Bank of Smethport. He is survived by one daughter: Lisa J. Mayer of Smethport, PA one brother: Phillip Mayer of Jamestown, NY, and several nieces and nephews In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Peter Mayer, and 2 brothers. Visitation will be held on Monday from 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, with the Rev. Bob George, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Smethport, officiating. Burial will be in the McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette. A Masonic service will be held in the funeral home at 7:30 PM Monday. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
