Obituary of Eugene E. Eidson

Smethport - Eugene E. Eidson, 79, of Smethport, died Friday (April 10, 2009), at his residence in Smethport, following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb 5, 1930 in Bradford, a son of Leonard and Mabel Hanyon Eidson, who preceded him in death. On July 31, 1954, in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, he married Mary Margaret Nick, who survives. Mr. Eidson attended Bradford Area Schools, and was in the Army National Guard. He then was called to active duty in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War as a private, from 1947 to 1951. Mr. Eidson worked in his familys oil drilling business. He worked in the oil industry most of his life, and retired from Witco Chemical Corp. in 1995. He later worked part-time for C.L. McKeirnan as a van driver for school students. He was an active member of St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, and had been a member and past president of the Holy Name Society. He was also an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He also had belonged to the Hilltop Volunteer Fire Dept., and delivered meals through the Meals-on-Wheels program. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Margaret "Margie" (Michael) Spencer of Duke Center, PA two sons: Stephen E. Eidson of Smethport, PA, Fredrick E. (Gail Marie) Eidson of Aurora, CO Grandchildren: Christopher Spencer; Jamie (Kevin) Fisher; Erin Eidson; Eric Eidson; Elisa Eidson; Elena Eidson. one sister: Geraldine Burton of Royal Palm Beach, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Donald Eidson and William Eidson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 15, at 10 A.M., in St. Elizabeth Church, with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted in the funeral home at 3:30 P.M., Tuesday, during visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music and Organ Fund at St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, or a charity of the donor's choice.
