Obituary of John Kenneth Raszmann
Smethport - John Kenneth "Ken" Raszmann, 89, of Crosby, died Wednesday (April 22, 2009) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford.
He was born Feb 6, 1920 in Crosby, a son of John L. and Lydia Grantier Raszmann. On November 23, 1947, in Farmers Valley, he married Betty Alice Sherwood, who survives.
Mr. Raszmann was a graduate of Colegrove High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, during WW II. He received the Purple Heart for being wounded.
He was employed as a Roustabout by South Penn Oil, Bradford, PA, in the areas oil fields.
He was an active member of the Crosby United Methodist Church, the Norwich Grange, was a member of the Elderberries at the Smethport Senior Center, belonged to the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby, and had played in a band with his brothers, Fred and Paul, for many years. He also was former caretaker of the Norwich Cemetery in Colegrove, PA.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by
two daughters: Susan Work and Tena Emerson, both of Crosby, PA
four sons: Tony Steven Raszmann of Crosby, PA, Kenneth James Raszmann of Erie, PA, Fredrick Henry Raszmann of Smethport, PA, Troy Lewis Raszmann of Crosby, PA
18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren
one brother: Paul Raszmann of Ithaca, NY; and several nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 1 sister, and a son-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral and committal services will be held on Saturday, at 1:30 pm, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Norwich Cemetery, Colegrove.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McKean County SPCA, Glennwood Ave. Bradford, PA 16701. Online condolences can be made at www.hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.
