Obituary of Charles Dawson Smith
Port Allegany- Charles Dawson Smith, 64, of Austin, died Sunday (November 4, 2012) in the Corry Memorial Hospital, Corry, PA.
He was born Dec 13, 1947 in Aliquippa, a son of Dawson and Margaret Morris Smith. On January 24, 1993 in Coudersport, PA, he married Rose Marie Nace, who survives.
Mr. Smith was a 1965 graduate of Hopewell High School in Aliquippa.
He served from 1966 to 1970 in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.
Mr. Smith was a tool & die maker employed by GKN Sintered Metals of Emporium, PA for 28 years. He retired in 2010.
He was a member of American Legion Frank Burt Post #258, Port Allegany, VFW Post 6391, Port Allegany, where he was Commander, Port Allegany Veteran's Memorial Home, where he was Past President, and the Port Allegany Honor Guard. He was also a member of National Pike Steam, Gas & Horse Association and the Allegheny Mountain Engine & Implement Association, where he had been the director. He was a member of the Eulalia Lodge #342 of F & AM and the Coudersport Consistory.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by
one daughter: Heather Smith of Galeton, PA
three sisters: Emojene White of Midland, PA, Virginia (Andrew) Maholik of Raccoon, PA, Agnes (Phillip) Davis of Hamilton, OH
one brother: James (Shirley) Smith of Midland, PA
step daughter: Kate Helm-Lovell of Roherstown, PA;
step sons: Robert (Dawn) Helm of Mt. Joy, PA and Steven (Christine) Helm of Columbia, PA
several step grandchildren
Sister In Laws: Barbara Smith of Raccoon, PA and Debbie Smith of New Brighton, PA.
Several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Donald, Eugene, and Roy Smith, and a sister: Patricia Brocklebank.
There will be no visitation. A Masonic and Military memorial service will be held on Wed. Nov. 14, 2012 at1:00PM in the Veterans Memorial Home Rt. 155 South, Port Allegany, PA.
Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Aliquippa, PA at the convenience of the family.
