Port Allegany - George W. States, 82, of Port Allegany, formerly of Punxsutawney and Smithport, passed away Saturday (September 29, 2018) in the Olean General Hospital, Olean.

 

 

He was born May 21, 1936 in Smith Mills, PA, a son of Eugene N. and Relda Faye Davis States. On December 23, 1955 in Marchand, he married Shirley J. Stoneberg, who died Dec. 17, 2017

 

 

Mr. States attended Punxsutawney High School.

 

 

Mr. States was first employed by GM in Buffalo then by IA Construction of Franklin, PA for 40 plus years, where he worked as a laborer, truck driver, equipment operator, paving foreman and moving up to regional manager of the Port Allegany District.

 

 

He was a member of the Jaffa Shriners, a 50 yr. member of the John W. Jenks Lodge #534 F&AM, Moose Lodge #460 of Port Allegany and Sons of the American Legion Post #258 of Port Allegany.

 

 

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, walking and most importantly spending time with his family and friends.

 

 

He is survived by one son, William (Rachelle) States of Rixford, PA and one Daughter, Pamela (William) Neely of Glen Campbell, PA

four Grandchildren, four Great Grandchildren and one step Grandchild

Three brothers: Samuel States of California, Charles (Marlene) States and John (Bridget) States, both of Punxsutawney 

 

           

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, two brothers, Allen States and James States, one sister, Sarah Jane States and one step brother, Robert Davis. 

 

 

At George's request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at the Union Hill Cemetery, Rossiter, PA , at a later date.
