Obituary of Richard L. Rifle

Smethport - Richard L. Rifle, 90, of Clermont, went to be reunited with his loving wife, Mary, on Saturday (September 19, 2009).He was born May 13, 1919 in Betula, a son of Fredrick and Julia McGee Rifle. In 1947, in Emporium, PA, he married Mary Villella, who died on Feb. 2, 1994.Mr. Rifle was a graduate of Colegrove High School and attended Olean Business School and Penn State University. He was employed as a purchasing agent and office manager for Kaul Clay Co., and ultimately, Cameron Manufacturing of Emporium. After his retirement, he worked at the Market Basket in Smethport, as a janitor. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during World War II.He was a former member of the Smethport School Board, a member of the Clermont Sportsman's Club, Clermont Fire Department, and was Sergeant Township Auditor.He is survived bytwo daughters: Joan (Richard) Mong of Seneca, PA, Judith Olson of Smethport, PA one son: Steven Rifle of Columbia, PA7 Grandchildren, Dana Hopkins, Marc Rickard, Tara Olson, Matthew Olson, Joshua Arnold, Shawn Rifle, and Brittany Rifle.9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 11 A.M., with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138, Smethport. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Clermont Fire Department, or Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.
