Obituary of Clement R. Alderfer

Smethport- Clement R. "Bob" Alderfer, 83, of Smethport, died unexpectedly, Sunday (September 20, 2009) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford. He was born July 24, 1926 in DuBois , a son of Clement J. and Katharine Mayo Alderfer. On November 6, 1964, in Smethport, PA, he married Jolin Parker, who died in 1998. Mr. Alderfer was a graduate of Smethport High School and attended William and Mary College, where he graduated with a B.S. in Education in 1954. He was a History teacher at Portville High School for 25 years. He served in the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during WWII, from 1944 to 1947, and in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952. He was a member of the Smethport Lion's Club, Smethport Senior Center and the Elderberries Club, Smethport Bucktail Club, the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport, was an amateur radio operator, and a former Smethport School Board member. He is survived by one daughter: Shirley Putt of Portville, NY 2 grandsons, Matthew Putt of Portville, NY and Bill Putt of Olean, NY. one sister: Anne Stowell of Keri Keri, New Zealand In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Alderfer in 1990, and 2 brothers. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral and committal services will be held on Wednesday, Sept 23, at 11 A.M., with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138, Smethport. Memorials, if desired, can be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Hilltop Baptist Church.
