Smethport- John Francis Johnston, 88, of Smethport, died Monday (October 5, 2009) in the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport.He was born Sept 8, 1921 in Wrights Corners, a son of Harry E. and Roxy S. Smith Johnston.Mr. Johnston was a graduate of Smethport High School, and was a PFC in the U.S. Army, serving in WWII from 1942 to 1945. He received the Purple Heart for wounds he received while fighting in France.Mr. Johnston was a self-employed Oil Producer.He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Bradford Moose Lodge, the Coudersport Consistry, and McKean Lodge #388 F&AM of Smethport.He is survived byTwo brothers: Paul B."Rusty" (Beverly) Johnston of Punxsutawney, PA, and Gordon E. (Jane) Johnston of Port Allegany, PA, and several nieces and nephewsHe was preceded in death by his parents.There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 11:00 am from the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St. Smethport, with the Rev.
