Obituary of George W. Young

Smethport - George W. "Gabby" Young, Jr., 84, of Smethport, died Thursday (October 22, 2009) in the Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.He was born Feb 21, 1925 in Smethport, a son of the late George W. and Ellanora Martin Young, Sr. On March 19, 1977, in Bradford, PA, he married Gardenia Elderkin, who survives.Mr. Young attended Farmers Valley Schools and was employed by Ad Hoc Pallets in Crosby, and was care taker of Rose Hill Cemetery for many years. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Smethport, and loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with family and friends. He was a hard worker, and he loved to watch Western movies and shows on T.V.In addition to his wife, he is survived byone daughter: Charlene (Alton, Jr.) Nofsker of Shinglehouse, PA three sons: Brian Heffner of Albion, PA, Bruce Heffner and Bradley Heffner both of Smethport, PA5 grandchildrentwo sisters: Stella Johnson and Louise Austin both of Smethport, PA; and several nieces and nephewsIn addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Heffner, and a niece.There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, Oct. 26, from St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Smethport, with the Rev. John Wesley, officiating.
