Obituary of James F. Barr

Smethport - James F. Barr, 79, of Smethport, passed away on Monday (March 1, 2021), at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

 

He was born April 6, 1941 in Smethport, the son of Robert Nyce Barr and Bertha Marion Carey Barr.

 

Mr. Barr was a 1960 graduate of Smethport High School and worked as an operator and laborer for Quaker State Refinery, Petrowax, and then Allied Signal of Farmers Valley, PA for over 30 years before retiring.

 

He had a life-long love of farming and music.  He was a member of the Allegheny Mountain Old Tyme Music Association, was a social member of the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport and John Berg Post #976 of Crosby.  He enjoyed antique tractor shows and bird watching.

 

He is survived by:

One son:  Andrew Nyce (Judy) Barr of Smethport

Three daughters: Julie (Rob) VanGorder, Gretchen (Mark) Simms, and Sarah J.L. Barr, all of Smethport

Grandchildren:  Joshua (Crystal) VanGorder, Jessica (Kevin) Seipp, Marklyn Simms, Savannah Barr, Christopher Barr, Shelby (Jacob Knapp) Barr, Katelyne (Lewie) Siffrinn, Drew (Zoey) Barr, Aaron (Trinity) Barr, Emma Barr, Mackenzie Barr, and Oaklee Barr

Great-grandchildren:  Cole, Ethan, Ava, and Jackson

Two sisters:  Florence Carter and Ruth Covert, both of Smethport

And many nieces and nephews

He was also close friends to James “Chumly” and Rhonda Duffy, and “Pappy” to their children, and to Deric Brown.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one son, Christopher John Barr; one granddaughter, Heather Tomlin; one sister, Edna Windsor; one brother, Charles “Chuck” Robert Barr.

 

There will be no visitation or funeral services held.
