Obituary of Theresa Jean Curran

Smethport - Theresa Jean Curran, 91, of Smethport, formerly of Betula, passed away Monday (December 6, 2021) at Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.

She was born October 19, 1930 in Betula, the daughter of Michael and Mary Girardi Cioffi.  On Oct. 10, 1975, in Bradford, she married James R. Curran, who died March 10, 2004.

Mrs. Curran was a graduate of Smethport High School Class of 1948 and was employed at GTE-Sylvania of Emporium for 33 years before retiring in 1982.

Jean was a member of St. Elizabeth Church, Norwich Twp. Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby Auxiliary, along with their 8&40 Club, and was in the Quarter Century Club of Sylvania.

Known fondly to many as “Jeanie”, Jean had an infinite love of people and a heart of gold. Her kindness and caring radiated everywhere she went. She was loved and enjoyed by many. Jean’s sense of humor was her hallmark. Family and friends can recall many times that she put smiles on their faces and hearts. She loved to socialize, read magazines, and watch football.

Jean was a wonderful cook and baker. On holidays she delivered her homemade meals to friends and those she felt could use a warm taste of friendship. She had a welcoming smile and heart that will not be forgotten by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She is survived by:

Two sons:  James (Sandra) Curran, Jr. of Ormsby and Bradley Curran of Port Allegany

Grandchildren:  Colleen A. (Geoff) McGuire and Bradley (Trisha) Curran, Jr.

Great grandchild:  Kyle McGuire

Nieces and nephews:  Karen (Jeff) Borneman, Laurie Dufford, Christina (David) Platko, and Michael (Quinn) Cioffi

Great nieces and great nephews:  Vanessa and Jacob Dufford, Kelsey (Kellen) Hughes, and Leah and Caden Cioffi

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Cioffi, Raymond Cioffi and James Cioffi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, December 13 at 11:00 am at St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Vincent Cieslewicz, pastor, as Celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport.

In lieu of flowers, memorials, may be made to St. Elizabeth Church, Norwich Twp. Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.  Online condolences may be made at www.hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.
