Obituary of Alice Joann Crowley

Port Allegany - Alice Joann Crowley, 90, a lifetime resident of Turtlepoint, passed away Wednesday (January 5, 2022) at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY.

 

She was born October 31, 1931 in Turtlepoint, the daughter of Matthew Brennan and Alice O'Toole .  On February 18, 1950, in Hinsdale, NY, she married Merle V. Crowley, who died on October 20, 1990.

 

Joann was a graduate of Eldred High School. She was a past Postmistress at the Turtlepoint Post Office. She then worked for AVX Ceramics in Olean for 30 years. She was ultimately a dairy farmer with her husband and son on their family farm.

 

Joann was a member of St. Mary’s Sartwell Church, a member of St. Raphael Altar Rosary Society, and a supporter of “No Feline Left Behind” of McKean County.

 

Joann always treated her family to the best homemade pies.  Sunday family dinner was always looked forward to by all.  She was a great asset on the family farm up to the age of 89 years old.

 

Joann is survived by:

Two daughters:  Jeanne C. (Thomas) Steen and Rita M. (Edward) Thierman, both of Olean, NY

Two sons:  John F. Crowley and Joseph A. Crowley, both of Turtlepoint.

Four grandchildren:  Theresa Barry, Charlene Thierman, Andrea Steen and Matthew Steen

Six great grandchildren:  Devin, Cara, Rocco, Allanna, Quin and Aroara

And many nieces and nephews

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Morris, Joseph, Thomas, Matthew and Durwood Brennan, as well as one sister, Rita Zoghibe

 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 9, from 3-7 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 105 Main St., Port Allegany.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, January 10, at 10 AM in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sartwell, with the Rev. Brian Vossler, as Celebrants.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Sartwell.
