Obituary of LeRoy A. Johnson

Smethport - LeRoy A. Johnson, 73, of Smethport, died Thursday (December 24, 2009) in the Hamot Medical Center, Erie. He was born July 18, 1936 in Rew, a son of the late John W. and Mable Lindquist Johnson. On Feb. 10, 1962, in the United Methodist Church of Smethport, he married Barbara Fox, of Smethport, who survives. Mr. Johnson was a 1954 graduate of Bradford High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965. Mr. Johnson was employed by Dresser Manufacturing of Bradford, PA for 45 years, as a tool and die maker. He was owner and operator of The Brookside Tree Farm in Smethport, PA for 30 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Smethport, the American Legion; Bradford Post #108, the Northern Star Lodge #555 F&AM, and AARP. His hobbies included bowling, horse shoes, wood working, camping, and traveling. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son: Brian Johnson of Erie, PA one daughter: Cheryl (Ned) Renzi of Murrysville, PA 2 grandsons; 1 granddaughter two sisters: Evelyn Ackman of Emporium, PA, Mildred MacPhearson of Fort Wayne, IN, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Alvin, Reinold, and Robert Johnson; 2 sisters; Dorothy Middlebrough and Virginia McOmber. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral and committal services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 11:00 am from the funeral home, with the Rev. Randall Headley, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Port Allegany, officiating. Burial will be in the McKean Memorial Park, Lafayette.
