Smethport - Beatrice Helen Megivern, 103, of Smethport, passed away Wednesday (June 8, 2022) at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.

 

She was born October 7, 1918 in Salamanca, NY, the daughter of Edward Kalamanka and Judyta Etta U. (Ambuski) Kalamanka . On June 14, 1950, in Holy Cross Church, Salamanca, NY, she married Charles F. Megivern, Sr., who died on August 15, 2004.

 

Beatrice was a 1935 graduate of Salamanca High School and had worked for F.W. Woolworth in Salamanca prior to marrying Charles.  After they were married, she devoted her time at home tending to the needs of her family.

 

She was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church of Smethport.

 

She is survived by:

 

One daughter:  Melinda McKinnon of Norfolk, VA

 

Two sons:  Charles F. Megivern, Jr. of Macungie, PA and Dr. Daniel G. Megivern of Denver, PA

 

Six grandchildren:  Chuck Megivern III, Laura E. Megivern, Heather L. Schenk, Julia Rafalko, Anna Sammer, and Sarah Megivern

 

Six great-grandchildren

 

One sister:  Barbara Leaskey of Olean, NY

 

And several nieces and nephews

 

In addition to her parents and husband, Beatrice was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Hammerle.

 

There will be no visitation.  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 10 AM in the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport.  Committal will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport.

 

Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.
