Obituary of Sylvia B. Herzog

Smethport--Sylvia B. Herzog, 93, of Smethport, PA passed away peacefully on day August 17, 2023 at Lakeview Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center, Smethport.

Born on October 18, 1929 in Burilington, VT, she was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Elizabeth (Hitchcock) Blakeslee.

She attended the Day School in New Haven, CT, the Grier School in Birmingham, PA and graduated from Goucher College in 1952.

On June 14, 1952 at the Edgewood Congregational Church in New Haven, CT, she married James R. Herzog, who preceded her in death on September 29, 2021.

She taught in the Smethport School as a gym teacher.

She enjoyed sports, bowling in the Smethport Women's Bowling Association, Smethport Country Club Ladies League, Husband and Wife (Couples) Golf, had a "Hole in One" on June 9, 2012, Cuba Lake Yacht Club member, Smethport Public Library director, Smethport Memorial Recreation Pool director, March of Dimes volunteer, Girl Scouts, Young Adult's Association member and enjoyed playing the card game Bridge.

Sylvia was a long time member of the United Methodist Church of Smethport.

She is survived by two sons, Scott and Kent, both of Smethport and four grandchildren, Ryan, Tara, Heather and Stacey.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank H. Blakeslee, Jr. on January 18, 2012.

Services will be held privately by the family.
