Obituary of Joseph S. Knell

Port Allegany - Joseph S. Knell, 79, of Port Allegany, passed away Monday (September 18, 2023) at his residence, Port Allegany.

 

He was born January 13, 1944 in Bradford, the son of Alfred and Mary (Sherwood) Knell. On June 1, 1966, in Roulette, PA, he married Juanita Cornelius, who survives.

 

Joe was a 1962 graduate of Port Allegany High School. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He attended the State Police Academy.

 

Mr. Knell was a Police Officer, employed by Port Allegany Borough Police, from where he retired. He previously had worked at Pittsburgh Corning in Port Allegany.

 

He was a member of the American Legion; Frank Burt Post #258, a member of the Liberty Lodge #505 F&AM of Port Allegany, Port Allegany Moose Lodge #460 of Port Allegany, a lifetime member of the Star Hose Company of Port Allegany, and the Port Allegany Honor Guard.

 

He enjoyed spending time with family, playing chess, hunting, fishing, and trapping.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

Six children: Thomas (Brenda) Kellogg of Coryville, Albert (Nancy) Kellogg of Rhode Island, Sandra (Steve) Cochran of Virginia, Alisa Diaz of Port Allegany, Juanita (Jinchun) Ho of Georgia, and Danielle (Eugene,deceased) Yentzer of Port Allegany.

 

Twenty grandchildren and many great grandchildren

And several nieces and nephews

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers: Robert and James, and one sister; Mary Alice Dalaba.

 

Family will receive friends on Saturday September 30, 2023 at 1pm. at the Veterans Memorial Home, in Port Allegany with a memorial service to follow at 2pm, with the Rev. Michael Culver Officiaring.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Port Allegany Honor Guard.
