Smethport - Thomas P. Murphy, Sr., 75, of Smethport, passed away Thursday (March 7, 2024) at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.

He was born November 27, 1948 in Olean, NY, the son of Pascal and Harriet (Smith) Murphy. On January 26, 1973, in Farmers Valley, PA, he married Noressa Kay Rote, who died April 16, 2018.

Tom was a 1967 graduate of Smethport High School. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

Tom worked at North Penn Gas Co., now UGI, of Port Allegany for over 40 years, retiring in 2013.

He was a Life Member of the VFW Post #2497 of Smethport. He loved deer and turkey hunting, along with trapping game.

He is survived by:

Four daughters: Colleen K. (Bill) Wilber of Smethport, Heather N. Kight of Lawrenceville, GA, Danielle K. (Chris Payne) Koch of Grand Island, NY, and Kathleen E. (Justin Costello) Moran of Ridgway, PA

One son: Thomas P. (Amy) Murphy, Jr. of Port Allegany

Grandchildren: Jordan, Julie, Dustin, Katelyn, Cameron, Brayden, Nathan, Laurie, Caleb, Marcus, Grant, Emily and Dylan

Nine great grandchildren

One sister: Tina (Chuck) Glick of Smethport

Two brothers: Jeff (Marcie) Murphy of Smethport and Dan (Lori) Murphy of Warren

And several nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents and wife, Tom was preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Murphy.

There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11AM, in the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, with the Rev. Max Simms, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Smethport Honor Guard.
