Obituary of Burdette L. Abbey

Smethport-Burdette L. Abbey, Jr., 83 of, Smethport, formerly of East Smethport, died Sunday in the Lakeview Senior Care & Living Ctr., Smethport. He was born on Nov. 5, 1926, in East Smethport, a son of Burdette L. and Jennie C. (Malen) Abbey, Sr. He attended Smethport Schools and served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a custodial engineer, employed by the Quaker State Oil Refinery, Farmers Valley, PA for over 30 years, retiring in 1989. Mr. Abbey was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Smethport, and the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138, Smethport. He is survived by 9 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers; Albert, Carl, Homer, William, and Iver. 5 sisters; Ruth Kennedy, Katherine Eckstrom, Alena Larson, Anna Abbey, and an infant sister. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9 A.M. To 11 A.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11am, with Mother Stacey Fussell, pastor of the Church of the Ascension Episcopal Church, Bradford, PA, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport.
