Obituary of Mary E. Marinik

Smethport - Mary E. Marinik, 96, of New Hartford, NY, formerly of Smethport, died Tuesday (December 24, 2024) at Presbyterian Homes & Services, New Hartford, NY.

She was born June 18, 1928, in Coudersport, the daughter of George and Emma (Dibble) Nicklaus. On September 23, 1950, in St. Gabriel's Church, Port Allegany, PA, she married Joseph L. Marinik, who died November 14, 2019.

Mary attended Roulette schools and graduated from Roulette High School in 1946.

Mrs. Marinik worked as a telephone operator and then owned and operated the Fulton House in Smethport from 1955 to 1965. She and her husband then co-owned the Gateway Lanes & Lounge in Smethport from 1965 to 1975.

Mary was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church of Smethport and the Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by: 

One daughter: Karen (Vincent) Sperrazza of Sauquoit, NY 

Grandchildren: Vincent J. Sperrazza, Joseph P. Sperrazza, wife Lidiya, and Mark F. Sperrazza, wife, Zoe, and son Arthur, all of New York City

One great grandson, Arthur, of New York City. 

One sister: Patricia (Richard) Baker of Inverness, FL 

And many nieces and nephews 

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by seven sisters: Thresa Scalfaro, Aurelia Reese, Hilda Buczkawski, Edna Minster, Helen Pransky, June Kio, and Ruth Roboski. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 10-11 AM at St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM with the Rev. Joseph Dougherty, pastor, as Celebrant.  Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport.
