Obituary of Ellsworth B. Lathrop, Jr.

Smethport - Ellsworth B. "Bones" Lathrop, Jr., 83, of Crosby, PA, died Tuesday (December 4, 2012) in the Sena Kean Manor, Smethport. He was born May 31, 1929 in Crosby, a son of Ellsworth B. and Anna M. Weidert Lathrop, Sr. He was first married to Clara Mae Jones. He then married Betty A. Bullers on November 27, 1981, who died on July 10, 2011. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army serving during Korea from 1950 to 1953. Mr. Lathrop was employed by North Penn Gas Co., now UGI, of Port Allegany, for 26 years. He retired in 1991. He was a member of the Norwich Township Volunteer Fire Dept. of Crosby, where he was a past Fire Police Captain, and of the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby, where he had been a Past Commander. He is survived by one daughter: Sally Bennett of Reading, PA three sons: John (Cindy) Lathrop of Coleville, Joseph (Debra) Lathrop of Sinking Springs, PA, and Charles (Gail) Lathrop of Crosby. Several grandchildren and many great grandchildren Four brothers: Paul (Donna) Lathrop of Crosby, Richard (Darlene) Lathrop of Port Allegany, Andrew (Anne) Lathrop of Smethport, and Michael (Judy) Lathrop of Georgia Two sisters: Anna Mae Uber of Emporium and Orvella Luce of Crosby And many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers: George, James and Donald Lathrop, and 3 sisters: Mary Jo Cooke, Betty Corbett and Pauline Black Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. Funeral and committal services will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, at 11:00 am from the funeral home, with the Rev. Randall Headley, Pastor of the United Methodist Church of Crosby, officiating. Burial will be in the Norwich Cemetery, Colegrove. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion; John Berg Post #976 of Crosby. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Crosby or the Norwich Township Volunteer Fire Dept., Crosby, PA. Online condolences may be made at www.hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.
