Obituary of William C. Daniels

Smethport - William C. Daniels, 93, of Smethport, died Tuesday (September 28, 2010) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford. He was born Jan 31, 1917 in Smethport, a son of Walter B. and Josephine Hagman Daniels. On Nov. 22, 1950, in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Smethport, he married Emily J. Johnson, who survives. Mr. Daniels was a graduate of Smethport Area High School. He was a Pvt. in the U.S. Army, serving during WWII from 1942 to 1945. He fought in the African Theater, in Tunisia, with Co. C 135th Infantry 34th Division as a Machine Gunner. He was wounded there on April 8, 1943, and was awarded the Purple Heart Combat Infantryman Badge for his injuries in action. Mr. Daniels was the Smethport Borough Water Superintendent for many years. He also had a woodworking shop in which he produced display cutouts for Mr. Leonard Johnson for The Christmas Store in Smethport. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Smethport, a past Trinity Lutheran Church Council member, the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport, and the Smethport Volunteer Fire Dept. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter: Beverly D. (Richard) Narvett of Fairview, PA two sons: Thomas W. (Pamela) Daniels of Munster, IN, and Donald A. (Margaret) Daniels of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL Grandchildren: Brian (Ariane Jaskolka) Daniels, Capt. David (Courtney) Daniels, Katherine Daniels, Tara Daniels, Leandra Daniels, and Drew Daniels. And several nieces and nephews In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 2 at 11:00 am from the Trinity Lutheran Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Thomas Beam, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, c/o Barbara Peterson, 912 West Water St., Smethport, PA 16749, or a charity of the donor's choice.
