Smethport - Alice H. Irons, 80, of Smethport, passed away in her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday (November 25, 2010). She was born Dec. 3, 1929, in Wilcox, a daughter of Norman and Theresa McMahon Hull. On April 26, 1952, in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, she married Charles F. Irons, who died December 9, 2008. Mrs. Irons was a 1947 graduate of Smethport Area High School and worked for Bell Telephone as an operator in their Smethport office. She was active in many farm organizations throughout the years. She served as a Farm Services committee person, on the Executive Board Extension Services, the 4-H Dairy Club, and as McKean County Fair Director. Alice was also a Judge of Elections for Keating Township, and a devoted member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, Smethport. She is survived by two daughters: Judith (James) Larson and Janet (Edwin) Difonzo, both of Smethport, PA two sons: Thomas (Rebecca) Irons and Joseph Irons, both of Smethport, PA 12 Grandchildren; 4 Step Grandchildren; 4 Step Great Grandchildren one sister: Eileen (James) McKean of Smethport, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Dixon, on Sept. 10, 2004, and one brother, Norman Hull. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1-3 and 7-9 PM at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Tuesday at 10 AM, in St. Elizabeth Church, Smethport, with the Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, pastor as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport. A Christian Wake service will be held on Monday at 8:30pm in the funeral home.
