Obituary of Helen R. Kennedy

Smethport - Helen R. Kennedy, 96, of Smethport, died Saturday (December 4, 2010) at her residence. She was born May 2, 1914 in Betula, a daughter of Wilber Milo and Mae Miller Oviatt. On June 3, 1933, in Smethport, PA, she married Link R. Kennedy, who died May 8, 2001. Mrs. Kennedy attended Colegrove Schools and was a housewife tending to the needs of her family. She attended the Betula Methodist Church and was a devoted member of the Free Christian Evangelical Church of Smethport, where she had taught Sunday School and held various positions within the church. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by three sons: Richard L. Kennedy of Wimington , DE, Robert S. Kennedy of Gaithersburg, MD, Phil M. Kennedy of Smethport, PA 11 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Carson, one brother, Ed Oviatt, 2 sisters, Jesse Miller and Bernice Fredricks. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., 2 Bank St., Smethport, PA, where funeral and committal services will be held on Wednesday, at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Wilber Barber, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
